Welcome to the DS HomeTech Blog
Practical advice on home theater, smart home, TV installation, security, and WiFi from the owner who actually does the work across Saratoga County and the Capital District.
Welcome to the DS HomeTech blog. This is where we'll share straightforward, no-hype advice on getting the most out of the technology in your home — from the TV over your fireplace to the WiFi that has to reach the far corner of the house. Everything here comes from real installs across Saratoga County and the Capital District, not a marketing department.
Why we're writing this
Most home-tech advice online is either an ad in disguise or written by someone who has never run wire through a wall. We wanted a place to answer the questions we actually get asked on the job — honestly, and in plain English. No upsells, no jargon for its own sake.
If you've ever wondered whether a Frame TV is worth it, where your cameras should really go, or why your "fast" internet still buffers in the bedroom, this is for you.
What you can expect
We'll keep posts short, specific, and genuinely useful. Topics we'll cover include:
- Home theater — picking the right gear for your room instead of the most expensive box on the shelf
- TV installation — fireplace mounts, heat clearance, and fully concealed wiring done right
- Smart home — getting devices to actually work together as one system
- Security — camera placement that covers what matters
- WiFi — why mesh beats a single router, and how to kill dead zones
Each piece is written to help you make a better decision, whether you hire us or tackle it yourself.
A quick note on our approach
Every project we take on is handled personally, start to finish. The same philosophy applies here: clear, accountable, and built around what you actually need. If a post saves you a service call, we've done our job.
